The Information We Collect and How We Use It
At Hagerty, we are committed to respecting your privacy. For this reason we want
to be upfront with you in terms of letting you know what information we may
collect and how we might use it.
This site may be co-branded with a Hagerty affiliate or partner. Although
Hagerty remains the sole owner of the information collected on this site,
non-public personal information may be shared with Hagerty affiliates or
partners to service or complete requested transactions. We will not sell,
share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is
disclosed in this statement. Hagerty collects information from our users at
several different points on our website.
Application:
We request information from the user on our application form. Here a user must
provide demographic information (such as name, address, and date of birth),
vehicle information (such as make, model, VIN, and storage information) and
household driver information (such as name, date of birth, and driving
history). This information is used to determine if you and your vehicle(s)
qualify for our program.
Cookies:
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing
information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any
non-public personal information while on our site. Cookies are only used on our
site to enhance and simplify the user’s visit. For instance, we set a cookie
whenever an application has been started. This allows the user to access his or
her application upon future visits. If a user rejects the cookie, he or she may
still use our site but will not have access to these enhancements.
Log Files:
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s
movements, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP
addresses are not linked to non-public personal information.
Links:
This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that Hagerty is not
responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our
users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements
of each and every web site that collects non-public personal information. This
privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.
Surveys & Contests:
From time-to-time our site requests information from users via surveys or
contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary
and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this
information. Information requested may include contact information (such as
name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age
level). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes
and for permission-based e-mail promotions and information. Survey information
will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction
of this site, as well as summarizing the results of all respondents and
reporting on industry statistics, trends, and group opinions.
Affiliate Program:
Information is collected from users electing to sign up for our affiliate
program. Here a user must provide demographic information (such as company
name, address, contact name, and URL). This information is used only for
conducting business with the affiliate and is not shared with outside parties.
Supplementation of Information:
In order for Hagerty to properly underwrite your application, it may be
necessary, when permissible, for us to supplement the information we receive
with information from 3rd party sources. Examples of this include, without
limitation, accessing state driving records and third-party credit reports and
claim history.
Use of Your Information
First and foremost, we use the information we collect from you to determine
whether we can underwrite an insurance policy once you submit an application
and to issue the policy if we accept your application.
We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners and
affiliates. This is not linked to any non-public personal information that can
identify any individual person.
We may use an outside shipping company to ship policies, and a credit card
processing company to bill users for goods and services. These companies do not
retain, share, store or use non-public personal information for any secondary
purposes.
We partner with other parties to provide specific services. When a user signs up
for these services, we will share names, or other contact information that is
necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not
allowed to use non-public personal information except for the purpose of
providing these services.
Disclosure of Your Information
We do not sell or rent any non-public personal information about you to any
third party. However, there are certain circumstances in which your non-public
personal information may be disclosed. The insurance industry is highly
regulated and we may be forced to disclose information to the government or
third parties to comply with applicable legal requirements. We may also
disclose non-public personal information about you in response to a judicial or
administrative order in a criminal, civil, or administrative proceeding or
investigation. We may also voluntarily disclose such information if we, in our
sole discretion, believe it to be necessary or appropriate in connection with
an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringement, or other
activity that is either illegal or tortious, or may expose us to legal
liability. Non-public personal information may be shared with Hagerty
affiliates or partners to service or complete requested transactions. In
addition, regardless of the security measures that we take, your non-public
personal information may be disclosed inadvertently if a third party acts
intentionally to intercept it.
Security
Hagerty uses industry standard efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of your
non-public personal information, such as firewalls and Secure Socket Layers.
However, "perfect security" does not exist on the Internet.
Public Forums
This site may make forums, message boards, and/or news groups available to its
users. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas
becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to
disclose your personal information.
